Zoo trip

Gabe went on his first halibut trip of the year on Saturday so the kids and I went to the zoo. It was super fun.

Our whole weekend was pretty fun. Some other highlights: grown-ups only dinner with a bunch of friends at Cattlemens while the kids all played together at Friday Fun Night, church on Sunday, lots of housework, some girl time both Sunday after church and most of yesterday. That extra day off was much-needed amazing.

Splish Splash!

I'm still not done with last weekend yet. I guess I am just a little obsessed with my niece because I did a really great job remembering to take pictures when she was here. I don't think I've taken any of my own kids this week. Oh well.

The kids had a blast on the slip and slide on Sunday. I don't really have a great story to go with that so I'll just post some pictures.

I love that Gabriel figured out how to slide on his belly. I also think we may have figured out what Gabriel's future profession may be. He's already got the plumber look down.

Is it awful that I just put that up?

Keeping those kids busy

We really kept the little ones going this weekend. Poor Iris is probably so tired this week but I just wanted to make her weekend with us the best ever. After the triathlon we headed to A St. Deli for some yummy breakfast.

Then we headed to the park for some play time. Iris LOVES the swings. I put Gabriel on the big swings too because he wanted to do everything Iris was doing. He only fell off once - not too bad (I didn't actually push him. He just sat on it and thought he was cool).

When we got home it was definitely time for everyone to take naps. Gabriel fell asleep right away and I thought Iris had also. But I went to check on her after about 20 minutes and she was wide awake and standing up in the pack and play. It turned out that Frejya had left a marker on her dresser and Iris found it and colored all over herself and the dresser. Awesome! She was so proud of herself so I just had to laugh. It probably wouldn't have been so funny if it had been one of my kids.

My little triathlete

This weekend was super busy and fun. We had the best house guest ever.

Iris came and stayed with us all weekend. I just love this little girl. She was dropped off at our house after the swim meet Saturday (we were supposed to have her Friday night too, but she stayed with Nana and Papa since Gabriel was so sick). We brought her to a couple different parties that evening and were constantly having to make sure she and Gabriel didn't jump in the pools. It really made me so glad that we don't have a pool at our house right now. Someday I would love one, but for now I'm perfectly happy without a pool.

Then on Sunday she got to come with us to watch Frejya compete in a triathlon. This is Frejya's 3rd year competing in triathlons and she just loves them. She was very excited for it to start.

There's quite a bit of waiting involved with these kinds of things, but all the kids did a great job with it.

I didn't get any pictures of her swim but was very proud of her as she was the first one out of the water in her heat. Go Frejya! She was all smiles during the bike and run portions.

So much fun! The kids were all very tired afterward. All 3 of them fell asleep during the 10 minute car ride back home. I think Gabriel was asleep before we even started driving.

So proud of my girl!!

It always seems to happen just in time for the weekend

Gabriel was sick on Friday. Really, really sick. He came home from daycare with a low fever. By the time we got home it was in the mid-102 range. After some Advil and a short nap he was a little lower for awhile, but obviously not feeling well. And then by evening time he was up to 104.5. That's a crazy high fever! And he was very hot and a little fussy, but really wasn't as bad as you would think with that high of a fever. He fell asleep on my lap which is very uncharacteristic of him (he never cuddles with me).

But then he woke up later in the evening and just hung out on the couch with Gabe and me and ate a piece of pizza like there was nothing wrong with him. Kind of crazy. He had no other symptoms and it turned out that he was just teething. Who knew that they could spike that high of a fever just for some teeth? I was expecting the drooling, but not the fever. And he really did drool a lot. He totally soaked his pajamas.

And of course he had his fishing pole with him. This kid has priorities and fishing definitely seems to top his list. He's not going to let a fever get in the way of this.

Big boy cup

Look who's drinking out of a big boy cup all by himself. Pretty exciting. A big reason that we've had to force this new skill on our little guy is that our dog has decided sippy cups are the best chew toys ever and we've sadly lost several of them over the past week. But it's also something we've been working on for awhile anyways. Kids can't drink out of sippy cups forever (but they will definitely be friends of ours in the car and in public for quite some time still).

Do you know what else is fun about big boy cups? You can put your hand in them and mix your spaghetti with your milk. Because it's so much better that way. Yum!

Pitching practice

In case you haven't caught onto this yet, fishing is huge at our house. And Gabe's obsession with it has quickly spread to the kids. Here they all are practicing their casting in the backyard on Sunday. They were aiming at a target in the middle of the lawn and Frejya was actually pretty good at  hitting it. Gabriel hasn't realized yet that his pole has no line. Someday he will graduate to the big leagues, but for now he's just practicing holding onto his pole.
